RECEPTION ANALYSIS ENCODING DECODING BY STUDENTS OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES OF MATARAM UNIVERSITY IN KUCUMBU TUBUH INDAHKU MOVIE BY GARIN NUGROHO

ABSTRACT

Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku is a movie that carries the theme of gender issues. This movie became the public spotlight to reap controversy. One of them is negative appearance of a petition that  prohibits this film from being shown because it can provide negative information and have an impact on people's social behavior, especially deviant sexual behavior, and feared that will affect the perspective of society, especially the young generation. This study aims to determine the Analysis of Encoding Decoding Acceptance by Students of the Communication Sciences Study Program at the University of Mataram in the Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku movie. In this study, the researcher used a combination research method (mix method) using an exploratory sequential design research design and data collection techniques using pre-survey, questionnaire, observation, and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman analysis model. Through this research, it can be seen that the Reception Analysis Encoding Decoding of Communication Sciences Students at Mataram University Class of 2017 and 2018 shows that the text messages in the Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku movie show dominance that does not reach the audience. The message that dominates the audience is that Juno is a feminine man but lacks the masculine impression that a man should have in general. This film can also be an alternative media in opening a discussion space on gender issues that are considered taboo so the audience can better understand the messages contained in the movie.
