Social construction is formed through social realities that are understood and communicated via social interactions, including through social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, which influence culture and societal behavior. One social construction that tends to have a relatively uniform interpretation is the concept of beauty. This study aims to uncover new meanings of beauty that are deconstructed in the music video Small Girl, which functions as an effective textual, audio, and visual medium for promoting alternative beauty standards. The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing critical discourse analysis based on Jacques Derrida’s theory of deconstruction, with a focus on binary oppositions, the formation of new meanings, and the concept of différance. The findings reveal six forms of beauty positioned as superior within binary structures: small cheeks, pink lips, a slim waist, brown hair, small girl, and big personality. The concept of différance is evident in shifts of meaning, particularly in big personality, which reverses the position of the small girl from superior to inferior. These findings affirm that, within Derrida’s deconstruction theory, meaning is always subject to differentiation and deferral.
