Abstract

The coastal area of North Lombok Regency, with its environment still unrecovered after the 2018 earthquake, remains vulnerable to disasters. Therefore, the role of local media in reporting on environmental and disaster-related issues is highly significant. Through their reporting, local media can shape public perceptions of ongoing disasters, forming a foundation for community action. The purpose of this study is to understand the causes of disparities in environmental reporting by local media, examining how local media practice environmental journalism for disaster mitigation in the coastal area of North Lombok Regency. This research is a qualitative study using a case study method. The findings indicate that local media have not given special attention to environmental issues in North Lombok Regency, nor do they face competition in covering environmental topics in this area. Consequently, ecological reporting is often influenced by the individual interests of journalists. Based on these findings, media outlets with journalists who have a stronger ecological concern are more active in covering environmental issues.
